Altered State: ‘Any condition which is significantly different from a normal waking beta-wave state’
Posted by Jon King on Dec 12, 2008
The various states of awareness include Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta states. Then we have Zeta, the vacuously inept or clinically dead state, as aptly demonstrated by George W Bush…
Altered States And Bushisms
There are of course one or two I could mention who fit the ‘altered state’ description very well, but we are specifically talking about the Psychic condition rather than the terminally insane!
Joking aside, there are many different ways in which altered states of awareness can be induced, including trauma, fasting, sleep or oxygen deprivation, sensory deprivation, high fevers, even severe infections like meningitis.
Prayer, mantra, trance, meditation, and of course, psychoactive drugs are also on the list, and beyond this, there are those who seem simply to have been born in an altered state―psychics, clairvoyants, mediums, intuitives, plus those who seem naturally sensitive to the more subtle and spiritual realms of consciousness.
While science endeavours to ‘explain’ this phenomenon as some form of ‘temporal lobe activity’, or even ‘temporal lobe epilepsy’, one thing science cannot deny is that these unique and mysterious psycho-perceptive ‘altered states of consciousness’ are real.
Indeed, altered states can and have been scientifically measured by MRI and EEG technology—check out the list below for classification of different brain states:
1-4 cycles per second.

It should be added that, when measuring the brainwave activity of former US President, George W. Bush, a fifth and entirely new brain state was discovered, as detailed below:

Zeta: the ‘vacuously inept’ or ‘clinically dead’ state: brainwaves = zero, absent, non compos mentis.
Evidence? Check these quotes:
‘I’m coming as the president of a friend, and I’m coming as a sportsman.’ George W. Bush on his trip to the Beijing Olympics, July 30th, 2008.
‘I think it was in the Rose Garden where I issued this brilliant statement: If I had a magic wand, but the president doesn’t have a magic wand. You just can’t say ‘low gas’.’ George W. Bush, Washington DC, July 15th, 2008.
‘I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don’t always agree with them.’ George W. Bush, flexing his wit.
‘They have no disregard for human life.’ George W. Bush on the Taliban, July 15th, 2008.
‘In terms of the economy, look, I inherited a recession, I am ending on a recession.’ George W. Bush, Washington DC, January 12th, 2009, in a valiant attempt to justify his inept leadership.
